“If you knew what was going on inside that kid’s head, you would be scared too.”
The Perfect Son was a page turner from the get go. Less than a quarter into the book and my eyes were racing through the pages. Although you think you know the plot very early on, this psychological thriller had me on edge.
Summary
The book is about a “normal” family that live in a nothing ever happens suburbia. The mother, Erika, hypes us from the beginning that her son, Liam, has got some issues and secrets. When the girl Liam is dating disappears, the family question how well they really know each other and how far loyalty will take them.
Writing Style
The story unfolds with first person POV from the family members and others involved. Freida wrote in a way that show cased the good and bad sides of each character. The characters felt real, relatable and developed well. I especially enjoyed the classic love hate relationship between Liam and his sister.
Thoughts??
I read this book believing who and what I did, based off the perspective I have on my own family. Looking back, I feel a little silly for not questioning my loyalty to character X. The plot would of been obvious, if I let go of what I thought I knew. This narrative made me question my truths and guilts. I’ve been known to twist the truth at times, so I’m curious how far my loved ones would go in believing and supporting me.
This mystery was exciting to read and built-up curiosity from the beginning. Freida kept me guessing until the very end. The ending plot twist will rack your brain! I recommend this book for all fast-paced thriller junkies.
